The Licensing Act 1964 (Part XIV Supplemental, section 201 Interpretation of other expressions) states that the definition of “intoxicating liquor” excludes

any liquor which … [is] of a strength not exceeding 1.2 per cent

This was revised in 1990 in the Licensing (Low Alchohol Drinks) Act 1990 which updated the passage to exclude

any liquor which is of a strength not exceeding 0.5 per cent at the time of the sale or other conduct in question
